Scars and stretch marks are common “battle wounds” associated with motherhood. Although not every mom is not left with scars or stretch marks after childbirth, many find themselves struggling to hide these marks or lighten them with topical creams.
Marina Plastic Surgery offers 2 methods of scar and stretch mark removal for Los Angeles and Beverly Hills moms who want to restore healthy-looking skin on the body and breasts.
Over-the-counter creams and medications may be able to provide some improvement in the look of scars and stretch marks, but the benefits are minimal.
Investing in more advanced treatments from Marina Plastic Surgery is a safe, effective way to greatly improve your skin’s appearance. Our patients in Beverly Hills and Los Angeles can get scar and stretch mark removal using topical scar therapy with silicone sheets or using laser skin resurfacing treatments for both new and old scars.
Your skin will be evaluated during your consultation in order to determine the depth, age, and type of scars present. Based on this assessment, your surgeon will recommend one of the following:
Silicone gel sheets are discreet and comfortable and can be worn under your clothing. This is a good option for women who want to soften and flatten raised or hard scars, such as scars caused by cesarean section. We offer a type of silicone sheet known as Mepiform®. These sheets should be worn 24 hours a day (except when showering) for 2 to 6 months, depending on the scar.
Laser skin resurfacing uses thermal energy to heat deep tissues under the skin, thereby stimulating new collagen growth and minimizing the look of scars and stretch marks. One session can usually provide dramatic improvements, but multiple treatments may be needed for best results.
Another option that is often overlooked for stretch marks is a tummy tuck. Stretch marks that are present on excess, loose abdominal skin can most often be removed surgically during the tummy tuck procedure. Women who choose this approach also enjoy the benefit of having a flatter, firmer midsection.
There is generally no follow-up required for women who choose scar treatment with silicone sheets.
Laser skin resurfacing may require a follow-up visit to establish whether more treatments are needed. For a tummy tuck, you will be required to meet with our surgeons regularly after your procedure so that they can monitor your progress.
