Christy Carlton is a 44-year-old, mother of 3, who had a Breast Augmentation, Tummy Tuck, Liposuction and a ThermaCool Face Lift. “It was an absolutely wonderful experience,” she said of this first experience with plastic surgery.
Christy thought about having a Breast Augmentation from the time when she was 20. She did her own investigation and research of various procedures on-line and on television, especially on the Discovery Health Channel where she first saw a segment on Dr. Stevens. After researching many other physicians, Christy Googled Dr. Stevens and scrutinized his background and many of the before and after pictures on the website. “Something clicked for me about him. His work is really wonderful,” Christy said, “He’s very personable. Talking to him face to face meant everything to me. I felt at ease with him. I really appreciated his bedside manner.”
When asked what caused her to take action after years of contemplation, she said, “It was the right time. I worked hard all this time. I was on the committee for my 25th high school reunion. I was 43, and I deserved it. It was the right time, and it was a present to me. Timing is everything.”
Christy opted for the new Gummy Bear Breast Implants, and she couldn’t be happier with her choice. After researching the Gummy Bear Implants on-line, she found that they have been used in Europe for about 10 years so she felt confident that they would be a safe choice. She said, “I look fantastic in a bathing suit. I love buying new bras, and I look great in blouses. I feel pretty, not that I didn’t before, but I feel like I want to feel.”
Christy’s procedures were performed all in one surgery under general anesthetic. Before her surgery, “The Anesthesiologist called me over the weekend,” she explained, “to ask about my allergy to latex. The Anesthesiologist is so important. If I ever have surgery again, I would want her. I woke up feeling great. I didn’t feel sick at all.”
Christy recovered at the Serenity Center, and highly recommends this option. When she recommended Dr. Stevens to a friend of hers, who is a nurse, Christy impressed upon her the advantages of staying at the Serenity Center. “My friend who stayed there was thrilled. They are the Crème De la Crème
When asked about her recovery, Christy said, “Dr. Stevens gave me all the tools to recuperate. I had everything all ready when I got home. My recovery was good, but I did not want to stay indoors. I went shopping a week and a half after my surgery with my drains still in which added to the swelling. It was not a good choice. You really have to pay attention to the doctor’s orders. I was just so excited about my new body. I was getting hit on even with the drains in. Even a year later my stomach is still tight like a drum. It looks like I do 500 sit ups a day, but I do none. I’m very pleased.”
The only regret Christy has is that she may have waited too long to have the procedures. After having 3 children, her oldest being 25, she realized, “You can’t get rid of extra skin or stretch marks, no amount of creams or anything I could have done would get rid of the excess skin or fat knees.” She laughs when she talks about her knees. She asked Dr. Stevens on the day of her surgery if he could liposuction her knees, and he did. She explained how she used to wear oil filled bras, but they leaked, “Now, I don’t have to worry about it.”
Her advice to others considering these procedures is to make a list of the pros and cons and weigh them out. “You need to have a good physician. A great physician is crucial. It’s the most important part. Go with the best. And don’t do it for anyone else, do it for yourself.”
